The church of Christ at Kingston
Greetings. We are a congregation of believers in Christ committed to unity in the Spirit. We have been in Kingston about fifteen years now. If you come visit us, expect to hear a message grounded in the truth from God's word. We meet every week as follows:
Service Times
Know the Truth
    It is God's will to
"have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth," (1 Timothy 2:3-4).
    Jesus tells his believers,
"If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," (John 8:31-32). A Christian's life does not end at salvation; it begins there.
We would like you to know about Jesus Christ and be saved through Him, and we would also like to teach you the word of God, so
"that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works,"
(
2 Timothy 3:17).
Please explore this website and learn about God's word and His church, but know that nothing can replace being in a worship service and our bible class is for learning, so questions are encouraged and will be answered scripturally. We invite you to visit us: to hear the teaching, and to meet our church family.

"And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him," (Acts 8:30-31).

What we believe

Simply stated: We believe that the Bible is the perfect word of God, and that the only path to salvation, the only way to heaven, the only acceptable worship, the only way of life is described in the Bible.
Our goals as a church are thus: (
1) To glorify God through obedience of His commandments; (2) To support the personal salvation of our members; and (3) To evangelize to others in hopes of bringing them to Christ and them becoming members of His body. The second and third goals are part of the first, since we are told, "whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God," (1 Corinthians 10:31).
To echo the points above: We (as a collective church) must speak, walk, and preach the truth; this is our duty (
2 Timothy 2:15). You must "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling," (Philippians 2:12); this is your duty. We (as individual members of the church) must spread the Word to the world around us; this is all of our duty (Matthew 28:19,20). Our actions should encourage and instruct your and our individual actions.

What is the church of Christ?
The church of Christ is a body of believers seeking "to worship God in spirit and truth" (
John 4:24). The Bible says: "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all," (Ephesians 4:4-6). The one Savior, Jesus Christ, has one body--the body of believers. It means the people who follow God's commandments.
The church of Christ isn't a sign on a building but it is the church which Christ founded, of which he is the cornerstone (
Acts 4:11-12; Ephesians 2:18-20). It is the church that he "purchased with his own blood," (Acts 20:28). Its members "are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light..." (1 Peter 2:9).
Our worship is simple, restrained to those acts stated in the Bible: prayer, singing, administration of the Lord's supper, collection of an offering, and a message preached from the Word. We come together that we
"may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me," (Romans 1:12), and by command (Hebrews 10:24-25).

        The church of Christ is
not associated with the United Church of Christ, the First Church of Christ Scientist, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) or the Boston Church of Christ, also called the International churches of Christ. There is only one true church which is found in the bible and it is that which is found in God's word: Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
